Wright Soloing For Blues

Parry McCluer High School senior Trevor Wright placed fifth of 21 golfers from five Pioneer District schools in his first match of the season last Wednesday at The Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista.

Wright, the lone golfer for the Blues so far this season, shot a 54 under the hot sun on the challenging par-36 front nine. Covington’s Allison Douglas was the medalist, firing a 42.

PM head coach Fred Fix said Wright had shot a better round in practice the day before, and the coach is confident Wright will improve with more competition. “He can play better,” Fix said. “It’s hard when you’re on your own.”

In the team standings, Bath County won with a score of 207, and Covington placed second with a 239. Narrows tallied a 243 for third place, and Eastern Montgomery shot a 247 for fourth place.

Fix said, unless the Blues get three more golfers so that they can compete as a team, he sees Wright’s matches as practice for the Pioneer District tournament, which will take place at The Vista Links on Sept. 25. From the district tournament, the top two teams and top six individuals outside of those teams will advance to the Region 1C tournament.

Today Wright will compete in a district match at Auburn Hills Golf Club in Riner at 4:30 p.m., with Eastern Montgomery playing host.
