Windy Whirl Returns Virtually

The Windy Whirl is returning as a virtual 5-kilometer run/walk on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12, raising funds for the Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse team.

The event last took place four years ago, and RC head girls lacrosse coach Susan Nye and her team have brought it back. Nye said the team will use funds to help players in need of equipment and gear and to do something special for the seniors in the spring 2021 season.

The race will start and finish at Brewbaker Field and will go through Lexington streets, with both flat and hilly sections. Runners and walkers can complete the race any time on Dec. 11 or 12. Participants will record their times and email them to Nye at rockbridgelax1@gmail.com. For a course map and a registration form, go to windywhirl.weebly.com.

The registration fee is $25. To guarantee receiving a t-shirt, register by Dec. 1. Particpants can pay on Venmo to Rockbridge Girls-Lacrosse @Rockbridgegirlslacrosse or mail a check to the Wildcat Lacrosse Booster Club, Attn: Tasha Polly, Maury River Middle School, 600 Waddell St., Lexington, VA 24450. T-shirt pickup will be on Dec. 11 at Brewbaker Field from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

For more information, e-mail Nye at rockbridgelax1@gmail.com.
