Will Candidate Acknowledge Results?

Sept. 5, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: Despite dozens of lawsuits alleging fraud in the 2020 race, no evidence has been found to dispute that Joe Biden won 7 million more votes than his opponent in a free and fair election to become the 46th president of the United States.

Candidate for Lexington City Council Colette Barry-Rec, however, is on public record denying the validity of the 2020 election and claiming against all evidence that Donald Trump must have won. On June 21, 2021, she wrote, “This bunch of arrogant evil fraud corrupt hurtful American commie A holes need to be gone! .... No election on November 3. It was a COUP.”

Undermining faith in elections is profoundly undemocratic. The erosion of trust affects us at all levels, whether we’re talking about federal offices or local ones.

I think it’s fair to ask Ms. Barry-Rec: If the November election for City Council doesn’t turn out the way you hope, will you blame that on voter fraud too?
