Wildcats Win District Volleyball Opener Over Waynesboro, 3-0

Thursday, Sept. 19 – The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team won its Valley District opener 3-0 over Waynesboro on Thursday night in Lexington.

After a tight first set, the Wildcats (10-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and quickly took second set. Waynesboro (1-7 overall, 0-1 district) briefly led early in the third set before it was tied 5-5, but the Wildcats then went on a 7-0 run and didn’t trail again, capturing the 25-21, 25-10, 25-16 win.

Graceon Armstrong led RC with 21 kills and 10 digs, Jaydyn Clemmer added 15 kills and 14 digs, and McKenzie Hines adapted well to her new role as libero, collecting 13 digs. Krissy Whitesell had 32 assists and 11 digs, and Jaden McCoy served up five aces.

Waynesboro’s leaders were Jada Keene with nine kills and nine digs, Cierra Bruce with 14 assists and nine digs, and Paige Smith with nine digs.

The Wildcats will continue district action at home against Spotswood on Tuesday, starting with the junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m.
