Wildcats Sweep Salem In Volleyball

Monday, Sept. 30 – With a strong finish, the Rockbridge County High School volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Salem in nondistrict action on Monday night in Lexington.

The Wildcats (11-1) trailed by as many as six points in the third set and were down 20-18, but they ended the match on a 7-0 run in defeating the Spartans (5-7) by a score of 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.

With the win, the Wildcats completed a sweep of the regular-season series with Salem, a strong hitting team.

Jaydyn Clemmer led RC with 27 kills and added 17 digs and two aces. Other RC leaders were Graceon Armstrong with 11 kills, 19 digs and two blocks; Krissy Whitesell with 27 assists and two aces, and McKenzie Hines with 11 digs.

Maddie Hall had eight kills and 11 digs for Salem, Meredith Hicks added seven kills and seven digs, and Brooke Baxley had 14 digs and two kills.

The Wildcats will return to Valley District action tomorrow, Tuesday, when they play host to Broadway, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m.
