Wildcats Set Three PRs At Rocktoberfest

Three Rockbridge County High School cross country runners set personal records at the Runnin’ With the Wolves Rocktoberfest on Saturday at Radford Estates Wolf Branch Farm in Forest.

For the last meet of the regular season, the Wildcats rested their top runners for yesterday’s Valley District Meet.

Those competing took on a challenging 5-kilometer course that consisted of obstacles, including jumps, creeks, sharp turns, and shot and steep hills. There were bands at various places along the course, and the race started with music by The Who. “It was a super fun hilly course,” RC head coach Julie Tisone said. “It was a fun end-of-the season race.”

In the boys’ race, Cave Spring’s Austin Hayden won 1n 16:10.

Lincoln Garcia led the Wildcats, finishing 110th in a personal-record (PR) 21:14. Teammate Jacob Ivins followed in 2214. RC’s third runner, Brice Hall, recorded a PR, coming in 115th in 23:38.

Wildcats following Hall were Jackson West (116th, 23:48), Joe Gearhart (119th, 24:05), Hans-Pieter Nelson (120th, 24:28) and Michael Gilbert (123rd, PR 25:42).

The Wildcats finished 17th of 18 teams with 534 points, beating George Washington (537). Host Jefferson Forest won the race with 79 points, Louisa County (84) placed second, and RC’s district rival Spotswood

(115) finished third.

The RC girls brought four runners, not the minimum number required for a team score, five.

Hanover’s Alli Crystal won 18:37.

Jessa Hoover led the Wildcats, placing 67th of 99 harriers in 24:37. Following closely was teammate Abby Hickman (73rd, 25:12). Also racing for RC were Wildcats Dreamer Coleman (78th, 25:53) and Sophia Fafatas (87th, 28:21).

The top three teams were Hidden Valley (49), Jefferson Forest (57) and Pacers Home School (115).

The Valley District Meet was scheduled to take place yesterday at Rockingham County Fairgrounds in Harrisonburg.
