Friday, April 9 – A remarkable season came to an end for the Rockbridge County High School football team, which lost to Heritage 48-10 in the Region 3C semifinals on Friday night in Lexington.

The Wildcats (6-1), the top seed in the Region 3C tournament, struggled on both offensively and defensively against the fourth-seeded Pioneers (6-1).

RC scored the first touchdown of the game when quarterback Miller Jay made a 63-yard pass to a sprinting Keswick Owens late in the first quarter, but the athletic Pioneers responded with four TDs of the first half to take a 28-7 lead into the break.

The Wildcats' lone points of the second half came on a 29-yard field goal from Daniel Cunningham with 4:50 left in the third quarter. Cunningham also made the extra point kick after the TD by Owens.

Heritage quarterback Kameron Burns made three TD pass, two to Keshaun Hubbard, and Zac Steele ran for two scores.

The Wildcats turned the ball over twice on fumbles.

The Pioneers advanced to next week’s regional championship game and will take on Liberty Christian Academy.

The Wildcats went 5-0 in the Valley District this year to win their first outright district title in program, and they had their first undefeated regular season in program history.

RC will graduate seven seniors who helped the Wildcats make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year: Cunningham, David Allio, Luke Mayr, Bret McClung, Alex Hinkle, Igor Lakićević and Nic Marando.
