Wildcats Earn 3-1 District Volleyball Win Over Broadway

Tuesday, Oct. 1 – Overcoming a sluggish start, the Rockbridge County High School volleyball team defeated Broadway 3-1 in Valley District action on Tuesday night in Lexington.

The Wildcats (12-1 overall, 4-0 district) lost the first set, struggling with errors and missed serves, but they battled to win the second set, pulling away with kills from Graceon Armstrong before Jaydyn Clemmer made a deep kill to end the set. RC comfortably captured the final two sets for a 24-26, 25-22, 25-12, 25-8 victory.

The match consisted of a lot of long rallies, with players from both teams hustling after balls.

Clemmer led RC with 22 kills, Armstrong had 16 kills and 14 digs, and Krissy Whitesell dished out 39 assists. Other RC leaders were McKenzie Hines with 16 digs, Emma Lawson with 10 digs, Grace Cauley with three blocks, and Ashley Hostetter with three aces.

Leaders for the Gobblers (3-12, 1-3) were Ellie Witmer with seven kills, Hannah Phares with six kills, Hannah Beck with 18 digs, and Chloe Copenhaver with 18 assists.

The Wildcats will continue district action on Thursday when they play host to Harrisonburg, starting with the junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m.
