Wildcats Coast Past TA On Volleyball Senior Night

Tuesday, Oct. 15 – The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Valley District foe Turner Ashby in its final home match of the regular season on Tuesday night in Lexington.

Before the match, the Wildcats (20-4 overall, 8-0 district) honored their three seniors: Graceon Armstrong, Meredith Lawhorn and Emma Lawson. All three players were key contributors in RC’s 25-12, 25-10, 25-13 win over the Knights (5-18, 2-6). With the win, RC completed a sweep of the regular-season series with TA.

Armstrong led RC with 18 kills and three blocks, and she collected seven digs. Lawson had 20 digs, while Lawhorn had six digs and three aces.

A highlight was when junior Jaydyn Clemmer recorded her 1,000th career dig late in the second set. Clemmer finished the match with 13 digs and 12 kills. Also stepping up was sophomore Krissy Whitesell, who dished out 34 assists.

Leah Kiracofe led TA with six kills, while Delanie Propst had 11 digs and Jadin Thomas recorded six assists and three aces.

The Wildcats will continue district action at Broadway on Thursday, starting with the junior varsity match at 6 p.m.
