Wildcats Advance to District Volleyball Finals

Wednesday, April 7 – The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Harrisonburg in the Valley District semifinals on Wednesday night in Lexington.

With the 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 victory, top seed RC (13-0) advanced to the district championship match, which will take place tomorrow, Thursday, at 6 p.m. at RC. In the finals, the Wildcats, who haven’t lost a set this season, will face second-seeded Spotswood, which beat fourth-seeded Waynesboro 3-2 in the other semifinal on Wednesday night. The Wildcats, who have clinched a berth in next week’s Region 3C tournament, will attempt to win their fourth consecutive district title.

Against the Blue Streaks (6-7), which challenged RC with strong blocking, RC started well and overcame a 6-4 deficit in the second set. Fueled by Nala Shearer’s serving and Jaydyn Clemmer putting away balls at the net, the Wildcats went on 12-1 run to take control of the set.

Harrisonburg led 7-6 in the in third set before the Wildcats came back and pulled away.

Clemmer led RC with 14 kills, 18 digs and six aces, while Krissy Whitesell dished out 20 assists and added five kills. Other RC leaders were Sophie Vaught with 11 kills, McKenzie Burch with 16 assists, Aiyana Cooper with three blocks, and Nala Shearer with 17 digs and five aces.

Amelia Mitchell led Harrisonburg with 12 kills, Maya Waid added 19 assists and two aces, and Ellie Muncy had three kills and six digs.
