Wildcats Advance To District Volleyball Finals

Tuesday, Oct. 22 – The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Harrisonburg in the Valley District semifinals on Monday night in Lexington.

The Wildcats (23-4), the top seed in the tournament, only trailed the fourth-seeded Blue Streaks (5-16) briefly in the first set before capturing a 25-13, 25-13, 25-6 victory.

With the win, RC earned a berth in the Region 3C tournament and advanced to the district finals, where play host to second-seeded Spotswood (11-11) tomorrow, Tuesday, at 6 p.m. Admission is $7. In the other semifinal Monday, Spotswood, earned a 3-1 home win over third-seeded Broadway. The Wildcats, who went 10-0 in the district to win the regular-season championship, will attempt to win their third consecutive district tournament championship.

Against Harrisonburg, a team the Wildcats swept during the regular season, the first two sets were close before RC pulled away. In the third set, RC jumped out to an 8-0 lead on Jaydyn Clemmer’s serve, and Harrisonburg never threatened a comeback.

Clemmer had nine kills and 12 digs for RC, and Graceon Armstrong added 14 kills, 13 digs and four blocks. Grace Cauley stepped up with eight aces and two kills. Other RC leaders were Krissy Whitesell with 25 assists and two blocks, Emma Lawson with nine digs, and Aiyana Cooper with four kills and two blocks.

Harrisonburg’s leaders were Jay Garcia with three kills and Amelia Mitchell with three blocks.
