What You Should Do If You Feel Sick

What do you do if you have flu-like symptoms?

According to Carilion Clinic, in accordance with guidelines from the Virginia Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, here are the recommendations.

• Do not walk into a hospital or urgent care because you have a fever or respiratory symptoms; call your provider, who will let you know what to do next.

• Consider the severity of your symptoms before calling: “Many people have minor symptoms and do not require medical care or testing and can stay home rather than coming into an office or facility.”

• Those who do not exhibit symptoms will not be evaluated or tested for COVID-19.

• Those with mild symptoms, regardless of source, will likely be told to return home and selfisolate and restrict contact with others to reduce the likelihood of the spread of the virus.

• If you have flu-like symptoms, avoid close contact with others and wash your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Symptoms of coronavirus include fever, cough and difficulty breathing and appear within 14 days of being exposed to an infectious person. COVID-19 spreads primarily through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
