Weather Impacts MLK Parade, Community Service

With a major snowstorm predicted for this Sunday and Monday, the local Martin Luther King Jr. events slated for Sunday and Monday have either been postponed or canceled.

Organizers of the MLK Community Parade announced Friday that Monday's parade has been canceled "due to the impending severe weather, and the need for police and security personnel to attend to weather-related issues."

First  Baptist  Church in Lexington, meanwhile, has rescheduled the annual MLK Community Worship Service that was to have been held on Sunday and the book discussion that was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18.

The new date for the community service will be Sunday, April 3, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Boykin Sanders speaking.

The discussion of "The Harlem Hellfighters" book will be held at FirstBaptistChurch on Monday, April 4, which marks the 54th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.
