Walter Daniel “W.D.” Goad, 67, of Lexington went to be with the Lord on Jan. 4, 2021.

Born Oct. 27, 1953, in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Lutie Goad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Wray, and brother-in-law Tom Spillers.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Brenda Shipman Goad; his children, J.D. Goad and wife Denisa of Fairfield, Amanda Goad and husband Scott of Lexington and step-children Ray Shipman and wife Jessica and Mandie Clark. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Diana, Jonathan, Cameron, Chance, Grayson and stepgranddaughter Hazel; brother Charlie and wife Delores Goad; three sisters, Barbara and husband Bill Cole, Bonnie and husband Brian Lonon and Brenda Spillers; and many nieces and nephews.

W.D. was the owner and founder of Goad’s Body Shop in 1987. W.D. loved cars – old cars, new cars, fixing cars and drag racing. He never met a car he couldn’t fix. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. He never met a stranger and loved to laugh. He loved people and enjoyed helping others when in need (very quietly – trying not to bring attention to himself). Over the past 13 years, W.D. raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Rockbridge Area Hospice with his Goad’s Classic Cruise In car shows.

W.D. especially loved his grandchildren who “PawPaw” loved to spoil. He had many close friends across the country, but considered Johnny Swink like a brother. If you were fortunate enough to meet W. D. Goad you would know that he was unique and loved by his family, friends, employees, customers and his community. His legacy will live on and he will never be forgotten.

A graveside service will be conducted at Timber Ridge Presbyterian on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. by Pastor Brandon McClung.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice. The family would like to thank Dr. Marsh for his kind and loving care.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
