VMI's Class Of 2020 Invited To Participate In December Graduation

March 25 - Virginia Military Institute cadets scheduled to graduate this May will be invited back for a December graduation ceremony in Cameron Hall.

Gen. J.H. Binford Peay III, superintendent, announced that decision, along with the school’s latest response to the coronavirus, in a communication to the VMI community Tuesday.

Because of the commitments of commissioning cadets and job obligations, members of the class of 2020 may also participate in the May 2021 commencement ceremony, he said. For those commissioning, ceremonies will be scheduled with the respective ROTC department, tentatively planned for May and June.

The first session of summer school, beginning in mid-May, will be held in distance learning mode. Decisions regarding additional summer programs are pending.

Based on the State Department’s Level 4 travel advisory and the recommendations of public health experts, VMI will not start any study abroad program before June 15.

Many items, including scholarships and federal financial aid, are under review to determine credits of tuition and fees. Several spring semester events are being moved to fall, and some are being held in a virtual environment.

After being closed for two weeks, cadets began distance learning today for the remainder of the semester.
