Carilion Clinic opened its second VelocityCare urgent care clinic in the Rockbridge area last week.

The clinic at White’s Travel Center in Raphine opened Thursday, Aug. 1, and a grand opening followed on Saturday with an official ribbon cutting, music, food and activities for all ages, including ground tours of a Carilion Clinic Life-Guard helicopter.

Carilion Clinic’s first local VelocityCare opened in doors in Lexington in June 2016 at 110 Houston St., Suite D. The Raphine clinic is Carilion Clinic’s eighth throughout its service area.

The clinic in Raphine occupies approximately 4,100 square feet in a newly constructed 8,500-square-foot building, operating alongside a new Carilion pharmacy next door. Construction began on the new building last July.

The VelocityCare will serve the needs of the Raphine and northern Rockbridge community, as well as the many travelers coming through in need of access to quality care. Its walk-in services include urgent care, on-site lab and x-rays, adult routine and seasonal vaccinations, sports and camp physicals and commercial driver’s license physicals.

There are five exam rooms, as well as one room each for treatment, consultations, imaging and a laboratory.

Urgent care was a need identified by the greater Rockbridge area community in Carilion’s regular Community Health Assessment. This practice acts as a bridge for patients with non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries, offering access to Carilion’s larger network of specialists and primary care providers through extended hours with no appointment required.

The adjacent Carilion pharmacy offers conveniences such as a MobileRx app, allowing people to refill prescriptions by simply downloading the app, entering the pharmacy’s phone number and scanning the prescription barcode. The pharmacy also offers vaccinations and point of care testing for things like glucose and cholesterol levels.

The new facility is located at 735 Steeles Fort Road.

The VelocityCare is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The pharmacy next door is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
