Upscale Clothing Chain Coming To Downtown

J. McLaughlin, an upscale clothing chain with locations in mostly upscale areas, will be setting up a new shop on Washington Street, in the space that was formerly home to Sunday’s Child.

The store hopes to be open by Thanksgiving in order to take advantage of the Christmas selling season.

David Stull of Sterling Properties handled the lease for J. McLaughlin.

“We’re excited to have them here,” Stull said. “They have a lot of stores in sort of upscale areas … I think they look at Lexington as an upscale area where their product will do well.”

The closest existing retail location is Barracks Road Shopping Center in Charlottesville.

Stull also said that the company likes small towns and working with local residents.

“They do like to give back to the community and work with the community.”

J McLaughlin’s online store shows clothing targeted at adult to middle-aged women and men. The quality is posh and the pricing is as well. The “Ella Poncho with Faux Fur Pockets,” for example, goes for about $400.
