Time To Celebrate U.S. Constitution

Sept. 9, 2019 Editor, The News-Gazette:

On Sept. 17, 1787, the Constitution of the United States was adopted and signed.

I love this country, warts and all. It is time for us to remember what an inspired documented was created by these imperfect men. When it appeared they were gridlock and were about to give up, the wise sage Benjamin Franklin recommended they do what they did in 1776 – pray.

While the convention did not, many did pray to Almighty God and hearts and minds eventually combined and forged our Constitution. The result has been the wonder of the world then and now.

Unfortunately, many who write and teach the history of the United States rather focus on our flaws as a society. This has succeeded in having a populist resistant acknowledge our forerunners whose grit and backbones came from Judeo-Christianity principles. The emphasis from some now is to dismiss this very jewel of its greatness. Let’s remove any resemblance of God in our lives under the guise of “separation of church and state.” Ronald Reagan pointed this out at a prayer breakfast in Dallas in 1984 – “If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God then we will be a nation gone under.”

Sept. 17, 2019, will be the 232th year celebration of what God gave this country to guide us and the world under the banner of liberty. The local Daughters of the American Revolution along with the George Washington Center for Constitutional Studies are encouraging every church, school, university who have a bell to ring them at 4 p.m. commemorating this historic event. They are sponsoring an event that evening at 7 in the Wesley Chapel on Charming Lane. I am looking forward to attending and encourage others to do the same. God bless us all and may God continue to bless America. We need His blessings now more than ever.
