Tax Preparers Available To Help Area Residents

IRS/AARP certified tax preparers are again ready to file tax returns for senior citizens and low-to-moderate income clients in the Rockbridge area.

The AARP Tax-Aide program will be offered on Saturdays at the Maury River Senior Center at 2137 Magnolia Ave. Buena Vista. The phone number is 261-7474.

Walk-ins and those with appointments will be seen from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays starting Feb. 8 and continuing through April 11.

Walk-ins will be taken from 9 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins and those with appointments will be seen from noon to 3 p.m.

Membership in AARP is not a requirement, nor is there an age or income minimum.

Taxpayers and spouses need to bring a photo ID, the Social Security card for every person claimed on the return, all documents related to income and deductible expenses, and their 1095A (if they purchased health insurance from the Affordable Care Act’s Marketplace).

In 2019, the Lexington volunteers prepared about 300 tax returns for people in the community. Anyone who would like to become a tax preparer is invited to stop in and talk to current tax preparers.
