Though the skies over Fairfield were threatening, the torrential rain Friday evening held off until the final moments of the annual South River Volunteer Fire Department parade. A nice crowd showed up to watch the parade, which lasted approximately half an hour. As it was ending, the lightning tore through the sky and a classic summertime thunderstorm commenced. This was the only carnival parade of the summer in Rockbridge County. (Joann Ware photos)
