Rockbridge County High School Netters Advance

In Monday’s playoff action, the Rockbridge County High Schoolvolleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Harrisonburg in the Valley District semifinals in Lexington, while Parry Mc-Cluer concluded its season with a 3-1 loss in the Pioneer District quarterfinals at Narrows.

The Wildcats (23-4), the top seed in the Valley District tournament, only trailed the fourth-seeded Blue Streaks (5-16) briefly in the first set before capturing a 25-13, 25-13, 25-6 victory. With the win, RC earned a berth in the Region 3C tournament and advanced to the district finals, where they were scheduled to play host to Spotswood (11-11) yesterday.

In Pioneer District action, the sixth-seeded Fighting Blues ( 3-18) fell to third-seeded Narrows(10-9) by a score of 25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-19.

Also concluding her season on Monday was RC freshman golfer Sofia Vargas, completing an impressive run in the postseason by finishing 68th at the Virginia High School League girls open golf tournament at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg. Vargas, who started playing golf on the first day of practice in August and was competing in her first 18-hole match, shot a 120 on the challenging par-70 course. Independence’s Julie Shin won with a 64.
