RC Golfers Edge Spotswood In Home Opener

Monday, Aug. 12 –  In its first home match of the season, the Rockbridge County High School golf team defeated Valley District rival Spotswood by two strokes on Monday at the Lexington Golf and Country Club.

Playing a nine-hole match, the Wildcats finished with a score of 165, while the Blazers tallied a 167. RC’s Garrett Huffman was the medalist, firing a 37 on the par-35 front nine. Teammate Cole Cathcart tied Spotswood’s Carter Atkins for second place of 12 golfers with a 40, and Spotswood’s Patrick O’Brien finished third with a 41. RC’s third scorer was Will McClung, shooting a 43.

Stepping up to record RC’s final score was John Shomo, carding a 45 after making a birdie and then a par on the final two holes. Also competing for the Wildcats were Aaron Plogger and Noah Sullivan, both shooting 50.

The Wildcats are scheduled to return to action with a nine-hole district home match against Turner Ashby on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Check back here and at www.rockbridgeathletics.com for schedule updates.
