Thursday, Aug. 15 – The Rockbridge County High School golf team avenged an earlier loss to Valley District rival Turner Ashby by eight strokes on Wednesday at the Lexington Golf and Country Club. With the victory, the Wildcats took control of first place in the district.

Playing the front nine holes at the club, the Wildcats finished with a score of 161 to the Knights’ 169. Junior Garrett Huffman and senior Cole Cathcart led the way, each posting a score of three-over-par, 38. Grant Pennybacker and Luke Mowery each fired a solid 40 for the Knights.

RC’s top four was rounded out by Will McClung and John Shomo, who posted scores of 41 and 44, respectively. Aaron Plogger followed with a score of 46, and Kendall Nye shot a 53.

That Wildcats will return to action Monday. They are scheduled for a noon tee time at Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg in a match that will feature all six Valley District teams, with Spotswood playing host.
