RC Girls Fall To Blue Streaks, 48-33

Tuesday, Jan. 24 – Unable to get its offense flowing, the Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team suffered a 48-33 home loss to Valley District rival Harrisonburg on Tuesday night in Lexington.

It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Wildcats (2-15 overall, 0-5 district). With the win, the Blue Streaks (2-13, 2-4) completed a sweep of the regular-season series. When the two teams met in a physical game on Jan. 6 at Harrisonburg, the Blue Streaks won 39-33.

Like the first meeting, the rematch was a physical game, with 24 fouls called on the Wildcats and 16 on Harrisonburg.

The Blue Streaks jumped out to an 11-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 28-12 by halftime, paced by McKenna Dayton’s 10 points.

A pair of 3-pointers from Emma Clark and a triple from Abby Bouchard helped RC cut the lead to 39-25 by the end of the third quarter, but Harrisonburg made shots and played strong defense to maintain a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

Bouchard led RC with 11 points, Clark and Maddie Dahl each added six points, and Lola Mulitalo chipped in five. Dahl led RC with seven steals and six rebounds, Rachel Hines had four steals, and Parker Dameron grabbed five rebounds.

Dayton paced Harrisonburg with 19 points, while Astrid Arebalo scored nine points on three 3-pointers. Timberlyn Moore added eight points for the Blue Streaks, and Jaiden Lemon chipped in seven.

RC committed 17 turnovers, while Harrisonburg had 19.

The Wildcats will travel to take on nondistrict foe Fort Defiance on Thursday, starting with junior varsity action at 6 p.m. The RC varsity team is scheduled to play host to Salem on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the ninth annual Rock the Ribbon Roundball Shootout.
