Friday, Feb. 14 – The Rockbridge County High School boys basketball team suffered a 62-51 home loss to Turner Ashby in the Valley District quarterfinals on Friday night in Lexington.

The fourth-seeded Wildcats (9-13), who had split the regular-season series with the fifth-seeded Knights (8-15), struggled to prevent outside shots, as the Knights made 10 3-pointers. Leading TA was Garret Spruhan with 19 points, including five triples.

RC’s Jailik Lynch led all players with 28 points, making two 3-pointers. Late in the second quarter, Lynch made a jump shot, giving him his 1,000th career point and tying the game at 21-21. The game was stopped so that the senior guard could be recognized, and he received a milestone basketball to be placed in the school’s trophy case.

After the game resumed, TA hit three 3-pointers to go on a 9-0 run to take a 30-21 lead into halftime.

The Knights built up a double-digit lead in the third quarter and led by 11 going into the fourth quarter. Lynch made a couple of shots to cut the deficit to eight, but the Wildcats would get no closer.

Other than Lynch, RC’s leaders were Griff Ray with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Aaron Plogger with five points.

Ethan Gerber scored 14 points for TA, Tyson Snow added 12, and Orion Angelopulos chipped in nine.

RC made eight 3-pointers but had a rough night from the free throw line, making just 3-of-10 attempts, while TA shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22).

The Knights advanced to the regional semifinals, while the Wildcats will wait to see if they advance to the Region 3C tournament.
