Police Report

Rockbridge County deputies responded to two incidents of suicide last week, one in the Walkers Creek area, the other in Fairfield.

Law enforcement was notified Monday, Feb. 3, of a 41-year-old male from Vesuvius who had taken his own life in the Walkers Creek area. He was discovered to be deceased on a property where he had been located by police one month prior, after he did not return home Sunday, Feb. 2. The sheriff’s office had dealt with him previously regarding mental health issues, according to a spokesman.

A 24-year-old male from Fairfield called 911 the evening of Saturday, Feb. 8, and made a brief statement about harming himself before hanging up the phone. After his call was traced, deputies arrived on Mission Lane in Fairfield, near the Faith Mission Church, where the male was found to have sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A helicopter arrived in Fairfield to airlift him to Roanoke for medical treatment, but he died in transport.

The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office made the following felony arrests recently:

Justin C. Carr, 33, larceny of a firearm, Feb. 3.

Matthew S. Perkins, 46, possession a schedule I or II controlled substance, Feb. 6.

Dusty A. Vess, 28, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon, Feb. 9.
