PM Swimmers May, Moore Advance To State Meet

Wednesday, Feb. 12 – Two Parry McCluer High School girls swimmers, sophomore Kensey May and senior Breanne Moore, advance to the state meet by placing in the top five in individual events at the Region 2C Meet on Monday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. The PM girls placed ninth of 12 teams.

May advanced in two events, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:19.94 and finishing fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:20.96, a personal record (PR) by over 15 seconds. Moore finished fifth to advance in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:13.84, a PR by nearly six seconds. Moore came in seventh in the 100-yard butterfly in a PR 1:13.68.

Taylorann Cash concluded a strong sophomore season by placing eighth in both of her events, the 100-yard backstroke in 1:18.07 and the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.87).

The Lady Blues scored 19 points to finish a place behind Giles (23). Glenvar won the meet with 138 points, and Radford (89) placed second.

The lone PM boy competing was sophomore Matthew Hemmings, who concluded a season of great progress by finishing 25th in the 50-yard freestyle in 37.47 seconds. PM’s other male swimmer, Sanzhar Abdimazhitov, a junior exchange student from Kazakhstan was away on a trip for international students. PM did not score any points in the boys’ meet, which Radford won with 191 points, while James River (89) placed second

The state meet, which will include swimmers from Class 1 and Class 2, will take place next Thursday, Feb. 20 at the SwimRVA Collegiate School Aquatics Center in Richmond.
