PM Boys Trounce Chatham, 59-32

Saturday, Jan. 11 – The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team coasted to a 59-32 win over Chatham at the seventh annual Rock the Ribbon Roundball Shootout, an American Cancer Society fundraiser, on Saturday afternoon at Rockbridge County.

The Fighting Blues (7-3) got off to a fast start, leading 13-2 after the first quarter and 35-7 at halftime. Chatham, an athletic team, picked up its offense in the second half, but the deficit was too large to overcome.

Spencer Hamilton led PM with 20 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, and he made all six of his free throw attempts. Will Dunlap added 13 points, sinking all five free throw attempts, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Talen Roberts chipped in six points and had three steals, and John Snider had two points and four blocks.

Shane Hunt and Nick Williams led the Cavaliers with eight points each, and Chris Tuner added six points.

PM hit five 3-pointers, while Chatham made four. The Blues committed 13 turnovers, while the Cavaliers had 15.

The Blues will return to action on Monday at Riverheads, starting with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
