Thursday, Oct. 10 – Parry McCluer High School senior Trevor Wright completed his high school golf career by placing 23rd of 31 individuals at the Region 1C tournament on Wednesday at Virginia Tech’s Pete Dye River Course in Radford.

Wright, the lone golfer for the Fighting Blues this season, shot a 117 on the challenging 18-hole, par-72 course. The tournament was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but it was postponed due to rain.

The top two teams and the top three individuals outside of those teams advanced to next Tuesday’s Class 1 state tournament.

George Wythe’s Channing Blevins was the medalist, firing a 71, and he led the defending state champions to the regional title, as the Maroons tallied a 309 to beat runner-up Auburn’s 383. Pioneer District champion Bath County placed with a 409.

Wright made steady progress this season, and the highlight was when he earned the final qualifying spot for the regional tournament by winning a one-hole playoff at the Pioneer District tournament on Sept. 25 at The Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista.
