Phillip Darrell “Shorty” Staton, 71, of Buena Vista, went to be with his Lord Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022.
He was born Dec. 2, 1951, in Rockbridge County, the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Staton and Pauline Estelle Beverly Staton.
He was also preceded in death by infant son Phillip Darrell Staton Jr.; daughter Nicole Dawn Staton; and sister Annette Staton Davis.
Shorty loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, cars and making people laugh. He was always there to help a friend when they needed him until his health declined and then they were there to help him. Shorty will be sadly missed by his family, many friends and the squirrels he loved to watch and feed.
Surviving are his daughter, Megan Lynn Hostetter; grandson, Isaiah Cole Ezell; granddaughter, Makenzie Skye Camden; sister, Sheila Wilmore (Jimmy); nephew, Gary Camden; nieces, Tina Gillespie and Holly Davis; his canine companion, Bucky; and many other relatives and many dear friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Green Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Dean Staton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral Home.
Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
