Outdoor Pool’s Open

Lexington’s outdoor pool opened for the summer last Saturday by appointment only, operated this year by Friends of Rockbridge Swimming. “I can’t tell you how many people have said, ‘Thanks for saving our summer,’” said Leslie Ayers, FOR Swimming aquatics director. “The water is beautiful. Our goal is to get six families every two hours into the pool. You can use the pool for up to two hours for a family for up to two hours. You can also use the diving boards. We’re doing that with all social distancing. It’s plenty of room.” To make an appointment, visit www.rockbridgeswims.org. (Claudia Schwab photo)

Cornelia is seated in front (second from right); William may well be the subject of the portrait spotlighted on the back wall. William Lee Washington Jr. stands just below the portrait, in a white tie (back row, fifth from left). (courtesy of W&L Special Collections.)
