Mysterious Monolith

Mysterious Monolith

No April Fool’s Day would be complete without a prank from local artist and entertainer Mark Cline. The monolith and mannequin combo appearing on Lazy Acres farm just past the Virginia Horse Center is a nod to his first April’s Fool’s art installation 20 years ago when he placed flying saucers on Mack Smith’s farm. “That was a nod to the movie ‘2001: A Space Odyssey,’” Cline said. “So 20 years later, I revisited that theme.” The installation is called “All That Matters” and is Cline’s first concept piece. He said that the theme of the piece is humans working together solving the mystery of the monolith. The self-described story teller and art manipulator says that he’s got enough ideas for the next 100 years. The monolith will be on exhibit for the remainder of the month.
