Mrs. Linda Colbert Carter of Lexington, 79 years old, passed away on Oct. 15, 2019, in Kendal at Lexington, in the company of her daughters.

Mrs. Linda Colbert Carter of Lexington, 79 years old, passed away on Oct. 15, 2019, in Kendal at Lexington, in the company of her daughters. 

She was born on July 3, 1940, in Pittslyvania County.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Rodney and Margaret Colbert, and her brothers Bobby, R.E. and Richard Colbert. 

She is survived by her husband of 54 years; Harry Mapp Carter, Jr.; sisters Dianne Martinko of Columbus, S.C., Joan and Rick Stroupe of Scottsdale Ariz., Faye and Terry Peake of Altavista, and Kaye and Joe Waller of Gastonia, N.C.; and two daughters, Amy Carter-Stewart and Charles Stewart of Marion, and Meg and Dave Peters of Lexington; and seven grandchildren, Carter, Harrison, and Madeline Stewart; Jordan Dudley; Julia Spencer; and Cole Peters.

Mrs. Carter was a registered nurse for 26 years, part of that time as the charge nurse in the nursery at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She then served as an elementary school secretary in Rockbridge County for 12 years. Linda was a member of Manly Memorial Baptist Church for 48 years where she was very active.  She served as a deacon, a nursery worker, a member of various committees, and a member of the Ladies Sunday School class.  She had many supportive friends in her church family and community.

The memorial service was held at Manly Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. and was followed by lunch in the church fellowship hall. Dr. Mike Wilkins officiated.

The family respectfully suggests that memorial donations be made to Manly Memorial Baptist Church or to Rockbridge Area Hospice.

Arrangements were by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
