WEDNESDAY— A storm with severe winds caused widespread power outages throughout the Rockbridge area this morning.

BARC Electric reported 1,409 customers in the Rockbridge area out of power around 7 a.m. Dominion Power also reported this morning 1,130 Lexington area customers and 581 customers in the Natural Bridge and Glasgow areas without power.

A storm swept across northwest Rockbridge and Southern Augusta Counties last evening about 10 pm, and a second line of storms came through earlier this morning, affecting most of Rockbridge. This second storm did most of the damage experienced locally with heavy winds and rain, resulting in down trees and limbs throughout the area.

“We do not have estimated times for restoration and ask that you please understand that all of our crews are working to get everyone back online as soon as possible,” BARC Electric said in a statement at 9 a.m.
