Mary Ann Patterson Dixon

Mary Ann Patterson Dixon passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at Richfields Living Center in Salem.

Born on Sept. 14, 1928, and raised in Buena Vista, she was the daughter of Elwood Patterson and Cassie Fox Cash.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, Bruce McClung Dixon.

She spent her life in Rockbridge County, and dedicated her time and love to her four surviving children and their families, Diana Dixon, Marilyn Dixon, Pamela Stalnaker (Marvin) and Bruce McClung Dixon Jr. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Deann Bishop, Tav Sensabaugh, William Knick IV, Emma Dixon and Lexie Dixon; and four great-grandchildren, Cody and Madison Sensabaugh, Piercen and Tate Knick.

Numerous family members and friends cherished Mary Ann’s steadfast presence of love and care. Many remember boarding their pets at her kennels and her employment as a Rockbridge County school bus driver for many years. Upon retirement, she and her husband Bruce enjoyed their cabin in Brattons Run, RV camping and their extensive travels all across the country while delivering Blue Bird school buses.

She welcomed equally all neighbors, strangers and wildlife to her home, kitchen and garden; she loved providing home-cooked meals, arranging and growing beautiful flowers, and keeping her bird feeders overflowing. She was ready to offer anything she owned to anyone that needed it. Her endless generosity and loving spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

To celebrate her life, family will welcome family and friends to join them with a graveside service at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
