Mary Abbott Waldeck, 87, of Roanoke died Nov. 27

Mary Abbott Waldeck, 87, of Roanoke and formerly of Lexington, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1935, in Walton, West Virginia, to the late Buie and Frances Abbott.

Mary graduated from Walton High School in 1953 and continued on to receive a degree in cosmetology. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for about 40 years where she was a past deacon, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and helped with the church flowers. Mary was a hair stylist for 15 years, serving the Lexington and Rockbridge County area. She volunteered for Rockbridge Area Relief Association (RARA). Mary enjoyed gardening, reading, singing, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Harold Abbott, Robin Abbott and Mabel Walker Chandler.

Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ernie Waldeck; daughter, Kim Waldeck; son, David Waldeck (Bonnie); grandson, Joshua Clark (Tomi Tilley); granddaughters, Deshka Miles (Ross), Erin Rees (Lance), and Ashley Clark; great-granddaughters, Noa, Sadie, Lily, and Quinn; great-grandsons, Grayson, Theodore, Gavin, and Graham; brother, Bryce Abbott; and sister, Linda Abbott.

The family would like to thank The Hermitage-Roanoke, Palliative Care at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Michelle Clements, and the staff of Oakey’s Funeral Service.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Virginia Room at The Hermitage-Roanoke,

with Chaplain Joseph Cobb officiating.
