The Lexington Woman’s Club presented ribbons to winners of its 2020 art contest at its recent meeting in Brady Chapel at Lexington Presbyterian Church.

All first-place winners in this local contest will advance to the Shenandoah District competition held in Penn Laird on April 4. District blue ribbon winners advance to the state competition.

Judges for this year’s contest were Lori Apgar, retired Rockbridge County High School art teacher, and Greer Stene, retired RCHS photography/photojournalism teacher. Additional participants were Linda Andrew, Dianne Harrell, Sharon Littley, Shelly Undercoffer, Lorraine Lilley and Claire Clasky,

To further promote the arts, local author Lisa Tracy read excerpts from her book “Objects of Our Affection” at the meeting. In her book, Tracy recounts the difficult process of parting with her own family’s furnishings and household items that she and her sister held dear.

After her presentation, she engaged club members in a spirited discussion, urging each of them to consider recording many of their own family stories before they are lost to time. Tracy shared strategies for accomplishing this so that it would not be burdensome and could be done effectively in short snippets of time.
