Light Up A Life Memorial Dec. 13 At Kendal

Rockbridge Area Hospice (RAH) understands that the holidays can be a difficult time for someone who has experienced the loss of a loved one.

The first step in coping with grief during the holidays is to acknowledge that everyone’s journey is unique, said a spokeswoman. For some, holiday memories serve as sweet touch points with memories of their loved one; for others they serve as sad reminders of the impact of the loss.

Rockbridge Area Hospice will also be holding its 36th annual, nondenominational Light Up a Life memorial on Dec. 13, at 5:30 p.m.

The Light Up a Life ceremony is an opportunity to reflect and honor the life of a loved one through a symbolic light, a name read in memoriam and a candle lighting. It is a traditional way to celebrate the lives of those who are deeply cherished and missed.

After two years of holding the event virtually, this December it will be held in person at Kendal Hall (

160 Kendal Drive
in Lexington). Light refreshments will be served.

Anyone can honor the memory of a loved one or loved ones by making a donation to signify a light on the holiday tree during this special ceremony. Visit the RAH website at www.rockbridgeareahospice.org to provide the loved one’s name and the designation level you’d like to light up in their memory. All names received by Dec. 9 will be read at the event.

The Light Up a Life event will also be broadcast live via the Rockbridge Area Hospice Facebook page and Zoom for anyone unable to attend in person. If you wish to participate via Zoom, email info@rahospice.org.
