The Lexington School Board unanimously approved a timeline for students' staggered return to Waddell Elementary and Lylburn Downing Middle at the regular meeting tonight.

The reopening calls for students to learn in person four days per week and engage in at-home virtual learning on Fridays.

Kindergarten and first grade students are now set to return the week of Oct. 26. Second, third and sixth grade students are then set to return the week of Nov. 9. To complete the staggered return, grades 4, 5, 7, and 8 will return the week of Nov. 16.

Families may still elect for their students to remain 100 percent virtual learners. The approved plan and timeline is contingent upon no significant changes to community COVID-19 case numbers, outbreaks and health data impacting the division.

Following the Board's approval, Superintendent Rebecca Walters said information about the return timeline for students will be sent to parents tomorrow. Leading up to Oct. 26, Waddell and Lylburn Downing administration and teachers will be in contact with families to further provide updates about scheduling and instruction.
