Larry Wayne Blackwell, 70, of Lexington passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Born Sept. 11, 1951, Larry was the son of the late Carl Campbell Blackwell Sr. and Ruby Emore Blackwell.

He was also predeceased by his brothers, Carl Campbell Blackwell Jr. and William “Bill” Blackwell, and mother-in-law, Marie Deacon Moore.

Larry was retired after a 34-year career at VMI. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Larry spent his spare time collecting antiques and loved spending time with his family. Larry was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather to the apple of his eye Leighton, uncle, and cousin.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rita Moore Blackwell; daughter, Lauren Blackwell Wright (Steven); granddaughter, Leighton Olivia Wright, and another granddaughter on the way; sisters-in-law, Cindy Blackwell and Dorothy Blackwell; brother-in-law, who was like a brother, Gus Moore (Susan); and many special cousins, nieces, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

A funeral was held Friday, July 29, at Harrison Funeral Home with Pastor Lou Caddell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, the ALS Association, or St. John’s United Methodist Church in Buena Vista.
