Tuesday, Oct. 22 – The Rockbridge County High School girls cross country team placed second of six teams at the Valley District Meet on Tuesday afternoon at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds in Harrisonburg to advance to the Region 3C Meet. Also advancing were three RC boys: seniors Josh Wawrzyniak and John Ryan Sedovy and junior Kyle Kendall.

The RC boys concluded the team portion of their season, placing fifth of six teams.

The top two teams and the top five individuals outside of those teams advanced to the regional meet, which will also take place at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Taking on the moderately hilly 5-kilometer course under constant rain, the RC girls finished with 62 points, only trailing Spotswood’s 54. Broadway placed third with 59 points. Completing the standings were host Turner Ashby (76), Waynesboro (108) and Harrisonburg (136). Harrisonburg runners did not count in qualifying for the regional meet since Harrisonburg is a Class 5 school, while the rest of the district teams are in Class 3.

Freshman Elizabeth McClung led the Wildcats, placing fifth of 38 runners in 21:33.2, and freshman teammate Megan Timmes followed closely in eighth in 21:36.3.
