Saturday, Jan. 11 – The Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team cruised to a 53-26 win over Liberty (Bedford) at the seventh annual Rock the Ribbon Roundball Shootout, an American Cancer Society fundraiser, on Saturday morning at RC.

RC (4-4) raced to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter and stretched its lead to 41-10 at halftime. The Wildcats cooled down in the second half, getting all of their reserves into the game, but Liberty (0-8) never threatened to comeback.

Graceon Armstrong led the Wildcats with 19 points, Emily Galford added 14, going 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Armstrong and Galford each made one 3-pointer, and the Wildcats hit five treys, while the Minettes sank just one. Emily Mahood chipped in seven points for RC. The Wildcats stepped up defensively to force 22 turnovers.

Machenze Flood led Liberty with 18 points, but no other Liberty player scored more than five points.

The Wildcats will return to district action when they play host to Turner Ashby on Tuesday, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m.
