Journalism Professor To Talk On Book

Mark Coddington, assistant professor of journalism and mass communications at Washington and Lee University, will give a public author talk on Jan. 27 at 4:30 p.m. in the Book Nook on the main floor of Leyburn Library.

Coddington will speak on his recently published book “Aggregating the News: Secondhand Knowledge and the Erosion of Journalistic Authority.” Light refreshments will be provided.

Coddington was a newspaper reporter in Nebraska before earning his doctorate degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 2015. He is a contributor to the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University, where he wrote a weekly piece from 2010 to 2014.

His research focuses on media sociology, online news production, networked and participatory journalism, news aggregation, social media and journalism.

The lecture is part of The Anne and Edgar Basse Jr. Author Talk Series, presented by the university library.
