James Gordon McMillan, 90, of Lexington died May 13

James Gordon McMillan, 90, of Lexington, died May 13, 2022, at Kendal of Lexington.

Born in Ohio on Oct. 6, 1931, he was a son of the late James Calvin McMillan and Ruth Gordon McMillan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 55 years, Nancy Ann McMillan, his daughter Kathleen Ann McMillan and his brother Robert L. McMillan.

He is survived by his brother John William McMillan (wife Carolyn) and their two sons John and Andrew; his son James Scott McMillan and his wife Rosanna, and their two children Courtney McMillan Schultz (Andrew), James “Mack” McMillan (Cathy); and five great-grandsons.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He moved his family back to Ohio and took over the family publishing business that he operated for 30 years.

When he retired, he and Nancy moved to Lexington to be close to his son and purchased and restored the historic home “Beaumont.” He loved nothing more than sitting on the balcony while sipping a single malt scotch watching the evening settle over town. He had a life-long passion for the game of golf, golf course construction, college football and college basketball.

There is a family graveside memorial service planned in Ohio for later this summer.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
