Jade Harris to Face Ellen Campbell in Special Election

Jade Harris was the choice of 24th District Democrats who gathered at the Lexington Democratic Party headquarters Tuesday to nominate a candidate for the House of Delegates special election.

Harris was nominated by a vote of 23-17 over Sam Soghor at the assembled caucus. Harris, Glasgow's vice mayor, is a 2016 graduate of Rockbridge County High School. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Mary Baldwin University.

In the Jan. 10 special election, Harris will face Republican nominee Ellen Campbell, widow of Del. Ronnie Campbell, whose death on Dec. 13 created the need for the special election. The deadline to challenge Ellen Campbell's bid for the GOP nomination passed Tuesday without any candidates stepping forward.
