Howard Kenneth Smith Sr., 85, of Lexington died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, at his home.

Born Oct. 11, 1934, in Big Spring, Texas, he was a son of Norvin McCurdy Smith and Louie Mae Smoot Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah-Elizabeth Naudain Smith, and a brother, Norvin M. Smith Jr.

Howard was a retired lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Air Force and executive officer of Virginia DeMolay from 1987 to 2003.

Surviving are his children, Helen M. Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Howard K. Smith Jr. of South Riding.

A funeral will be conducted at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. David Cox. Family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
