Grace Evensong Features Schweizer Arrangement

Grace Episcopal Church will continue its offering of fourth Sunday Evensongs on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m.

The service will follow the contemplative model of Holden Evensong, a setting written by Marty Haugen while he was the musician-in-residence at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in Washington State.

The service is full of candlelight and congregational singing. The choir will offer two anthems, including “Love is Little,” a Shaker tune arranged by Mark Schweizer. Schweizer, who died in November, had been in Lexington recently to share his theatrical and musical talents and was cousin to many of Lexington’s Schweizers. A recording of the anthem will be sent to his family and colleagues at St. James Music Press.

The second anthem is a setting of the Gaelic text, “Deep peace of the running waves to you,” by Dent Davidson, musician and liturgist at St. Bartholomew’s in New York City. Instrumentalists will include Doug and Libby Cumming.
