Sean Gannutz recently joined the Rockbridge Area Health Center as a physician assistant, providing primary medical care to patients of all ages.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and a master of science degree in physician assistant studies from Missouri State University.

Prior to pursuing his master’s degree, Gannutz provided advanced life support in a pre-hospital setting as a paramedic for 10 years.

“I found myself following the outcomes of my more critical patients and felt a great sense of satisfaction in knowing the care I provided had an impact on their survival and improved quality of life,” said Gannutz. “The desire to become more involved in the longterm care of patients is what facilitated my pursuing a career as a physician assistant.”

For the past five years, Gannutz has provided family medical care, preventing and treating acute and chronic illnesses in rural Missouri.

“Having practiced within a community health center in Missouri, I appreciate the patent-centered medical home (PCMH) approach to the delivery of health care, “ he said. “Working at RAHC is a win-win because I can continue to provide care within a PCMH, as well as live in Virginia where I can be closer to my family.”
