College professor and U.S. Army veteran Daniel Gade easily won the Republican primary Tuesday to become the party's nominee who will challenge U.S. Sen. Mark Warner this fall. Gade far outdistanced his two opponents statewide and in all three Rockbridge ara jurisdictions.

Gade won 67.45 percent of the vote statewide to defeat Nottoway County teacher Alissa A. Baldwin with 18.07 percent and security analyst Thomas A. Speciale II with 14.47 percent.

In Rockbridge County, the vote totals were as follows: Gade, 1,044 (75.38 percent); Baldwin, 186 (13.43 percent); Speciale, 155 (11.19 percent).

Buena Vista – Gade, 186 (72.3 percent); Baldwin, 51 (19.84 percent); Speciale, 20 (7.78 percent).

Lexington – Gade, 135 (61.64 percent); Baldwin, 60 (27.4 percent); Speciale, 24 (10.96 percent).

Gade will now face the Democratic incumbent Warner in the Nov. 3 general election. Warner, a former governor, is seeking his third term as Virginia's senior U.S. senator.
