Fred Fix Jr., 66, of Buena Vista died March 27

Fred Hunter Fix Jr., 66, of Buena Vista, died on March 27, 2020, in his home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Rockbridge County on Oct. 11, 1953, the son of the late Fred Hunter Fix Sr. and Helen Goolsby Fix.

Fred worked as a building inspector for the city of Buena Vista for over 20 years before retiring and coached Parry McCluer’s varsity girls softball team for 13 years, including two state championships. Fred also coached Parry McCluer’s golf team for 12 years. Fred proudly served as a life member of both the Buena Vista Rescue Squad and the Buena Vista Fire Department. He was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Goolsby Fix; his wife, Jody Celeste Fix; two daughters, Kristie Fix Falcioni of Wilmington, N.C., and Lauren Fix Fortenberry of Oxford, Miss.; two sisters, Brenda Hartless of Lexington and Sandy Little of Rockbridge Baths; one brother, Randy Fix of Lexington; and four grandchildren, Jansen and Aspen Fortenberry of Oxford, Miss., and Weston and Allison Falcioni of Wilmington, N.C.

Fred will be laid to rest at Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista. A memorial service to celebrate Fred’s legacy is planned for a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Fred H. Fix Jr. Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
